Early voters lock in on police station

As of Monday afternoon, 447 people had cast ballots at the Burr Ridge police station, 7700 County Line Road.
One of nine Early Voting polling places in DuPage County, the Burr Ridge location is open to all eligible voters living within DuPage.
Election judge John Michalski of Burr Ridge said most of the people who have voted at the police station live nearby.
“It’s primarily Burr Ridge, Willowbrook and Hinsdale,” he said.
He and fellow election judge Mike Ryan of Westmont both have served during prior Early Voting periods. They agreed that this year’s turnout is about average as compared to previous elections.
“It’s usually slow the first two weeks,” Ryan said.
As the end of Early Voting approaches, business picks up. The peak came on Saturday, when 78 people cast their ballots.
Of the nine DuPage locations, only the Aurora Public Library has attracted fewer voters.
The biggest turnout as of Monday was at the Downers Grove Village Hall, where 1,091 people had voted.
Countywide, 6,137 people had completed Early Voting as of Monday afternoon.
Ryan and Michalski agreed that the Burr Ridge police station seems to be a good spot. This is the first time the station, which opened in 2010, has been used for Early Voting. Prior Early Voting had taken place at Five Seasons Sports Club.
Polls will close at the police station at 5 p.m. today, but they’ll open again at 6 a.m. Tuesday. The station will serve as the polling place for Downers Grove Township precincts 35, 40 and 116.
