Drought not expected to bring tighter water restrictions

The dry weather has caused some local annoyances, but overall, Burr Ridge officials do not anticipate tighter water use restrictions.
Dry air is kicking up dust, which is making its way into the filter at Woods Pool.
“It’s taking the manager twice as long to clean it,” Burr Ridge Park District Recreation Superintendent Lavonne Campbell said.
Trees, flowers and ball fields also are taking on more water than usual, Campbell said. She will be glad when the park district’s new well is ready for use. It will allow the park district to access virtually unlimited water without increasing its water bill.
In the meantime, plenty of homeowners and businesses can expect higher bills in the mail.
“We are selling a lot of water,” Burr Ridge Village Administrator Steve Stricker said. But Stricker does not anticipate having to put further water use restrictions in place.
“We can handle it,” he said.
As in summers past, residents north of 83rd Street are allowed to sprinkle their lawns from midnight to noon and from 6 p.m. to midnight on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Sprinkling south of 83rd Street is permitted during the same hours on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Sprinkling is not permitted at all on Wednesdays or noon to 6 p.m. on any day.
The restrictions will remain in effect until Sept. 15.
Steven Rynberk of Tameling Industries in Willowbrook said the drought seems to be having affected the company’s workload.
“Our sod sales really haven’t taken off,” said Rynberk, who blames both the economy and the dry conditions.
