BURR RIDGE — For Brandon Valentino, his new job as a Burr Ridge police officer is a dream come true.

“I always wanted to be a police officer,” said Valentino, who was sworn in this month as the newest member of the village’s police force.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Illinois State University, Valentino went on to earn another degree in physical education and health.

In preparation for his job in law enforcement, Valentino volunteered with the emergency management agency in Palos Hills for several years.

The Palos Park resident said Burr Ridge seems a good fit.

“It is similar to my own hometown,” he said. “I feel almost at home in Burr Ridge.”

It will be several months before Valentino takes the wheel behind a Burr Ridge squad car. He’s attending 12 weeks of police academy training at College of DuPage, after which he will undergo 12 weeks of departmental training.

Chief John Madden praised the village’s Police and Fire Commission for a job well done.

“I know they gave me an excellent candidate,” he said.

New officer Lucas Weeks will return from the academy in August to begin his departmental training, Madden said.
