BURR RIDGE — Just Ducky is new to Burr Ridge. But for owners Beverly and Lori Donofrio, it is like coming home again.
“I grew up here,” said Lori, a graduate of Hinsdale South High School.
Beverly lived in the village for 33 years and raised her children there.
The mother-daughter team opened their first store in 1986 in Darien. After opening a second store in Naperville in 2000 and moving the Darien store to Bolingbrook in 2007, the pair has decided to make Burr Ridge Village Center their upscale gift boutique’s one and only home.
Donofrio said the upscale image of the Burr Ridge Village Center is a good match for her store’s collection of home décor items, jewelry and specialty clothing. Carefully displayed throughout the 4,100-square-foot store are items that range from quirky to elegant, and from whimsical to inspiring.
There are witches and ghouls to decorate for Halloween and sparkling ornaments for the Christmas tree, along with many home décor items appropriate for any time of year.
Just Ducky offers plenty of items to decorate oneself, as well, with a large inventory of jewelry by Pandora and Brighton and quilted bags by Cinda B.
“They’re all made in the United States,” Lori Donofrio said.
The same is true of jewelry designs by Isabella Rose of Kildeer and Blessing Bracelets, created by a company in Oak Brook.
“These, I think, are going to be huge,” Donofrio said of the simple but poignant bracelets, which encourage the wearer to stop and count her blessings.
Another draw for the store is its supply of serving pieces by Hinsdale native Nora Fleming.
“Nora is one of our biggest sellers,” Donofrio said.
“We want local people to support us,” said Donofrio, and they want to return the favor by supporting local companies.
The store also will support the community itself through events like its open house, set for 3 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 20. The evening will include a raffle, proceeds from which will benefit the Hinsdale South High School Foundation. There also will be food, drinks and giveaways.
New items are arriving daily at the new Burr Ridge store, making every trip to Just Ducky something new, Donofrio said.
“We’ve got lots more coming,” she said, with shipments of new merchandise arriving almost daily.
One thing that never changes is the store’s commitment to its customers. Donofrio said great customer service is always a priority, no matter what town the store calls home.
