WHEATON

The man accused of killing 18-year-old Joshua Holmes of unincorporated Willowbrook last month pleaded not guilty Monday to five counts of first-degree murder.

Juan Cuellar, 23, of 10S710 Lilac Lane, Willowbrook, remains held without bond in the DuPage County Jail. His next court date is set for Nov. 27.

Cuellar is accused of firing six shots at Holmes Sept. 24 at the apartment complex where both men lived. The shooting occurred outside and in front of several witnesses.

Cuellar’s mother, Elva M. Hernandez, 42, also was arraigned Monday. She pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of obstructing justice. Hernandez, also of 10S710 Lilac Lane, is accused of helping her son to dispose of the gun used to kill Holmes.

DuPage County State’s Attorney spokesman Paul Darrah said Hernandez will return to court Thursday to request a reduction of her $150,000 bond. ~.
