WILLOWBROOK — For fourth-graders in Rita Januszyk’s class, rocket science is just part of the curriculum.

“You are doing the things that rocket scientists do,” Januszyk told her students at Gower West Elementary School as they prepared to make the first of two rockets from straws, tape, clay and paper.

The students fired their rockets, using launchers obtained by Januszyk through a Gower Foundation grant, on Monday. They will use the information they gained during the initial launch to create an even better rocket on their second try.

“Build, test, improve, build, test, improve. That’s what rocket scientists do,” Januszyk said.~.
