This week we’re putting aside the elegant ball gowns and taking down the glittering gala decor and instead peeking behind the scenes at the fundraisers, benefits and galas that the Trend section features.
The glamour and fun of these events often mask the true meaning of a charity ball or benefit. When seen cumulatively, the difference we all can make is astonishing.
In these tight economic times, charity organizations need help more than ever. And members of The Doings communities stood ready to give back. The fundraisers we covered raised a staggering nearly $29 million for charities throughout the area. And more than $5 million of those monies were raised through local fundraisers and stayed close to home, in our very communities.
Sometimes the money is raised through auctions — live and silent auctions or paddle raises. Sometimes it’s a chat over a glass of wine that gets new ideas flowing or new friends brought into the fold.
Whether you volunteer at a charity, donate money to a good cause or do a bit of both, it does matter. It all helps. And there is no time as good as the end of the year to step back and look at what we’ve done together.
Keep Trend in mind throughout the coming year. Let us know if your organization is planning a fundraiser or benefit. Send information to doingstrend@pioneerlocal.com and we’ll help spread the word.~.
