BURR RIDGE — The first time he heard the instrument in fourth grade, Jason Daniel knew he wanted to be a horn player. Eight years later, Daniel is one of the top French horn players in the state, having been named to the 2013 Illinois Music Education Association All-State Band. He is the only instrumentalist from Hinsdale South to make this year’s ensemble. He will make the trip to the IMEA conference in Peoria this month along with fellow Hornets Maura Carr, who made the All-State Choir, and All-State Honors Choir members Nicole Blumenstein, Rachel Cunningham, Kyle Labak and James Matkovich.

A. Yes. My teacher’s name is Andrew Ortman. He was my inspiration for playing horn.

A. I listen to a lot of different music. I like electronic, alternative rock. I do all of my homework and studying to music.
