Burr Ridge summer concert series stretched to 13 weeks

BURR RIDGE — The sixth annual Summer Concerts on the Green series will be expanded this year from 11 Friday-night concerts to 13.
“We will have concerts every Friday from June through August,” said Lisa Scheiner, assistant village administrator and liaison to the Downtown Burr Ridge Events Planning Committee.
Scheiner said concerts in summer 2012 drew 1,400 to 1,800 people to the Village Green at Village Center each week.
“We’ve grown our attendance exponentially,” with people coming from Chicago and many surrounding suburbs, she said.
As always, the summer 2013 series will include many genres, with the goal of providing “something for everybody,” Scheiner said.
The Village Board on Monday agreed to put as much as $19,500 toward that entertainment, but Scheiner said it likely will not be needed.
The net cost to the village for last year’s series was just over $6,000, thanks to sponsorship from local businesses. The Downtown Events committee already has secured $10,500 in sponsorships for this year and expects to nearly double that. With all associated costs considered, Scheiner said she expects the entire 13-week concert to cost the village no more than $10,835.
