BURR RIDGE
Felony drug charges have been filed against two women who were passengers in a car stopped Jan. 22 in Burr Ridge.
Marie F. Kucera, 22, of 3 Bay Rum Court, Burr Ridge, and Ashley M. Barta, 23, of 609 Sheffield Lane, Bolingbrook, each face one count of possession of a controlled substance, a class four felony, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor.
Both women were taken to DuPage County Jail. Kucera was released on bond while Barta remained in custody at DuPage County Jail on Wednesday. She is being held on a $2,000 bond.
Officers were alerted to Kucera and Barta when the driver of a vehicle they were passengers in committed a traffic violation near 87th and Madison streets. Officers reported seeing items in the vehicle consistent with illegal narcotics use. Kucera and Barta each had in their possession small packages believed to contain heroin and items of paraphernalia used for injecting or ingesting the drug, police said.
Burr Ridge Police Chief John Madden said heroin is becoming a growing problem in DuPage County.
“We have responded to at least four heroin overdoses since 2010,” Madden said. “One resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man.”~.
