Four area residents were recognized at ceremonies Feb. 21 for exceptional service to youth and the community by the Des Plaines Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
They received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest recognition that a Boy Scout Council can bestow on its volunteers for their efforts on behalf of youth and scouting. It is awarded to those adult Scout leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through their service.
Honored were Roy J. Dames of LaGrange Highlands, Marc W. White of Chicago, Thomas F. Bennington, Jr., of Downers Grove, and Robert A. Mervine of Countryside.
Council President James Honan said the Des Plaines Valley Council had the highest number of Boy Scouts in its history acheve Eagle Scout in 2012, and set new standards in the number of service hours Scouts contributed to communities through their efforts in a variety of projects and programs.
“This could only be achieved through the hard work of our Scouts in support of their communities and the dedicated efforts our volunteer leaders.,” Honan said. “Our Silver Beaver Award winners this year reflect the best of that volunteer leadership.”
