Republicans name new committeeman for Lyons Township

WESTERN SPRINGS — Attorney and business consultant Jim Falvey has been appointed as the new Republican Committeeman for Lyons Township.
Falvey , who ran unsuccessfully in the 2012 Republican primary for the U. S. 3rd Congressional District, replaces Tony Peraica, a Riverside attorney who has held the post since 2002.
Falvey said he looks forward to the challenge of promoting his party’s message, as well as broadening its appeal.
“We need to make sure our message is clear — more limited government, lower taxes and less regulations,” he said.
Falvey also said Republicans should make better use of technology and social media, as Democrats used to their advantage in the 2012 elections.
The new committeeman plans to hold monthly meetings, social events and outreach efforts to expand on the party’s base to represent all segments of the township’s population.
Peraica, who stepped down as committeeman Dec. 31, represented the Cook County Board’s 16th District from 2002 to 2012, when he lost to Democrat Jeff Tobolski, mayor of McCook. Peraica also ran unsuccessfully for county board president and state’s attorney.
“I’ve done my time in the public square, serving 20 years or so,” Peraica said. “Public service is my attempt to give back to the greatest country in the world.’
Peraica said he plans to spend more time with family and continue his law practice of 30 years, serving clients who otherwise wouldn’t be represented in the judicial system.
Cook County Republican Party Chairman Aaron Del Mar of Palatine issued a statement Feb. 25 announcing Falvey as the party’s choice, following a committee’s review of candidates.
Members of the selection committee included Lyons Township Republican organization members Steve Palmer, Christine Cook and state Rep. Jim Durkin, R-82nd, Western Springs. Committeemen also participated from Berwyn, Proviso, Palos, Worth and Stickney townships.
Falvey has held leadership positions at R.J. O’Brien & Associates, the U. S. Futures Exchange, the Intercontinental Exchange, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Allstate Insurance Co.
He serves as general counsel for Green Key Markets, as managing director at his own consulting firm and an adjunct professor at Penn State University.
Falvey earned a bachelor’s degree in government and international studies from the University of Notre Dame, a law degree from Georgetown University and a master’s in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
