Future of Burr Ridge concert series hinges on new hire

BURR RIDGE —The future of Burr Ridge’s summer concert series could depend on the hiring of a part-time employee.

During a review of the proposed 2013-14 budget Monday, Village Administrator Steve Stricker told trustees that Assistant Village Administrator Lisa Scheiner no longer can do the job of coordinating the concert series and other special events on her own. The job of coordinating the series includes seeking sponsorships, which takes a lot of time.

“It’s just become too much,” said Stricker, who said coordinating such events is just one of many duties assigned to Scheiner.

The village recently voted to expand the successful summer concert series to 13 performances, but Stricker said that could be scaled back to eight if the board doesn’t approve the hiring of a part-time assistant.

Stricker said events like the annual Jingle Mingle Christmas parade also could be scaled back. He is seeking an answer from the board by the end of the month about whether he can spend $20,000 on the new part-time position.
