Police form task force to investigate string of burglaries in western suburbs

A task force has been formed to investigate a string of eight west suburban residential burglaries in January, La Grange police report.

Police issued a community alert Wednesday notifying residents of the crimes in nearby suburbs and advising them to be vigilant and report anything suspicious by calling 911.

Residents are urged to obtain and report the best description possible, but not attempt to confront a suspicious person.

Four break-ins were reported in Western Springs in the past three weeks between 5 and 7 p.m. on weekdays when no one was home. The rear door of the homes was forced open, and cash and jewelry were stolen.

Burr Ridge police report a home on the 600 block of 82nd Street was broken into between 9:30 a.m. and 5:22 p.m. Jan. 17, with several pieces of jewelry taken.

Two homes were burglarized in Hinsdale Jan. 14, and a break-in also was reported that day in Indian Head Park.

Indian Head Park also is investigating three burglaries Jan. 7 where entry was gained through attached garages.

A home on the 4800 block of Grand Avenue in Western Springs was burglarized between noon Jan. 6 and 6:47 p.m. Jan. 7. A side door was pried open when no one was home, police said.
