Classes were set to resume Tuesday at Hinsdale Middle School, after the building was shuttered since Jan. 16 when mold was discovered in the building.
Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 reported Friday the ductwork cleaning was complete in the building, and a final cleaning was being done. Testing by Integrity Environmental Services was conducted over the weekend, and a fire inspection done on Monday.
Some staff members visited Sunday to organize their classrooms and move things back into place, and an open house Monday night allowed parents and the community to see inside.
The School Board approved Jan. 20 spending $384,512 for duct work cleaning and baseboard removal measures recommended by Integrity Environmental Services and SERVPRO, two companies working to fix problems.
The middle school was closed Jan. 17 for more testing after the problem was discovered, and there were no classes for HMS students again on Jan. 21 and 22 (Jan. 20 was a holiday). The district began the split schedule at CHMS on Jan. 23, but all schools in the district were closed Monday and Tuesday of this week because of the cold weather. That means all District 181 schools have missed four days since winter break, and HMS has missed seven days.
