Renee Schuster is stepping down as superintendent of Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181, effective June 30.

Schuster, who began working as superintendent July 1, 2010, told the District 181 Board Feb. 10 of her plans to resign. She is returning to the St. Louis area to be closer to her parents.

“This is a very hard decision, but family is always first,” Schuster said. “This is a great community. This district has a very promising future.”

Board President Marty Turek said there has not been discussion on plans for a search to find a successor.

“We just found out that she was going to leave,” Turek said. “I would suspect that we would hire a search firm to do a national search. And I’m sure that Dr. Schuster will help us put a profile together of who we should be looking for.”

A previous District 181 Board used the search firm, Hazard, Young Attea & Associates when Schuster was hired.

Turek praised the work Schuster has done since coming to District 181.

“We are in a better place because of her leadership,” he said, adding two district schools, The Lane and Oak, have been nominated for National Blue Ribbon awards during Schuster’s tenure.

Board member Michael Nelson agreed.

“She not only has provided great leadership, she has attracted and elevated great talent in the administration,” Nelson said.
