Lyons Township High School sending two to state speech finals

Lyons Township High School seniors Claire Meyer and Jack McDermott were recently named state qualifiers in speech. Students will represent Lyons Township at the state tournament for the first time in 25 years. | Provided

For the first time in 25 years, Lyons Township students will advance to the speech state finals. Seniors Claire Meyer of La Grange and Jack McDermott of Western Springs qualified in Prose Reading and Special Occasion Speaking, respectively. They will compete at the Peoria Civic Center Feb. 20 and 21.

Lyons Township’s Sectional Tournament showing included eight events, four of which made it to the sectional finals. The last time Lyons Township had a student at state was 1988.
