Boys basketball: Hinsdale Central gets past Glenbard West, 56-48

THE SKINNY

With Hinsdale Central’s victory and York’s loss to Oak Park-River Forest, the Red Devils claimed the West Suburban Silver title. Hinsdale Central (21-6, 11-1) struggled in the first half to find its rhythm on offense against a pesky and persistent defense by Glenbard West (12-13, 4-8). Junior forward Matt Rafferty got the Red Devils going with 10 points in the third quarter and 16 in the second half overall. Clutch shots and key defensive stops allowed the Red Devils to pull away in the closing minutes.

TURNING POINT

With less than two minutes left, Devils senior guard Chase Hamilton forced a steal in the backcourt. His shot was blocked by Hilltoppers’ senior guard Corey Davis, who passed the ball off to sophomore guard Alex Passi. However, Hinsdale senior forward Grant Lillard stole the ball in the backcourt and finished with a layup to give the Devils a 49-41 lead with 1 minute, 38 seonds.
