Fifteen Lyons Township High School students were recently named All-State Musicians. Three students, juniors Mitch Galgan, Christian Naval and Clair Rewsler, are repeat honorees, having been named among the All-State ranks last year.
All-State musicians are chosen by the Illinois Music Educators Association based upon preliminary auditions held in October at the district level. There are typically 2,400 students who audition for district ensembles in the district each year. This year, LT had 59 students selected for district ensembles band, choir, orchestra, jazz band and jazz choir, which is the highest total of any school in District 1. The students with the highest scores in each district are submitted to a meeting of all Illinois Music Educators Association district presidents. At this meeting, district representatives choose students to represent their districts at the state level for the All-State ensembles.
Lyons Township’s 15 All-State Musicians performed at the Illinois Music Education Conference held at the Peoria Civic Center in January along with other top musicians chosen from across the state.
