Hinsdale Central’s girls basketball season wasn’t supposed to end this way when coach Tom McKenna looked ahead during the preseason.

The Devils finished above .500, but the last month was difficult as season-ending injuries to three seniors kept Hinsdale Central from challenging eventual West Suburban Silver champion Downers Grove North.  The season came to an end Feb. 19 when Hinsdale Central (15-12) lost to Lyons (18-10) 57-44 in the Class 4A Young Regional semifinals.

It was Hinsdale Central’s second loss to Lyons in three meetings this season.  While it marked the final game for Red Devils seniors Abby Gurka and Emily Wasz, the team’s other three seniors saw their prep careers come to an end earlier this season.
