Girls basketball: Young pays back Trinity and wins 11th straight sectional crown

Top-ranked Young rebounded from an early season loss to Trinity to capture the Class 4A Hinsdale South Sectional on Thursday.

After Trinity guard Lauren Prochaska scored her first basket to start the second quarter, the Dolphins registered eight of the next nine points to take a lead they would never relinquish in a 58-43 victory. Khaalia Hillsman, a 6-foot-5 Texas A&M recruit, led Young with 14 points and 13 rebounds. In Trinity’s 56-52 win Jan. 11 in River Forest, Hillsman got into in early foul trouble.

“I wasn’t focused at all; I didn’t come ready to play last time,” Hillsman said. “I was really excited. We are a better team than the last time we played them.”

Hillsman, SMU-bound Taylor Brame (11 points) and Tanita Allen (10 points, four rebounds) led a defensive effort that allowed only five Trinity points in the second quarter. Sophomore Kaitlin Aylward (14 points, four 3-pointers) made all three of Trinity’s baskets in the first quarter.

DePaul recruit Prochaska finished with a game-high 18 points. Trinity sophomore Annie McKenna, who registered 21 points in the first meeting, contributed eight in the rematch.
