A Burr Ridge house is uninhabitable after a fire burned through the roof Monday afternoon.

A maintenance worker in the area at 12:30 p.m. reported flames coming from a multistory, single-family home on the 9400 block of Falling Waters Drive, Burr Ridge Deputy Police Chief Marc Loftus said.

No one was home when the fire started, Loftus said.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof, Tri-State Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Jack Mancione said.

Fire departments from neighborning towns, including Hinsdale, Wesmont and Lemont, helped extinguish the fire.

One firefighter suffered a sprain and was taken to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, but is not believed to be intentional, Mancione said.

The damage is estimated at $1.7 million, Mancione said.

A real estate website lists the 6,000-square-foot home, with six bedrooms, for sale for $1.28 million.
