Darien City Council members unanimously approved a resolution Monday to construct a wireless dish on the Darien water tank.
The resolution stems from a lease agreement the village made with General Communications, which was first introduced last May.
“We’re renting out a space on the water tower to transmit signals,” said Scott Coren, assistant city administrator.
He said General Communications will install the equipment on the tower at 1220 Plainfield Road.
Darien will collect $4,000 each month from General Communications, which is a wireless installation company.
“The money can be used to fund capital projects like streets and . . . sidewalks,” said Coren. “Revenue stream is always great.”
General Communications will come to the city’s Building Department this week to present its construction drawings for the project. If approved, the communications company will begin the installation process later this month.
