St. Joseph boys basketball coach Gene Pingatore was not happy with the way his team played in the Class 3A St. Joseph Regional semifinal against Little Village Tuesday, but he knows what the ultimate objective in March is.
The Chargers cruised to a 76-53 win to advance to Friday’s final against either Clemente or Timothy Christian, but it wasn’t always pretty. The Chargers turned the ball over 21 times and hit only 17-of-32 free throws in the win.
“The whole idea is that you have to win,” Pingatore said. “We played bad, and I’m upset because we played bad, but you have to win the game to advance. That’s what happens in the tournament. You just try to not fall into the trap.”
