School districts adjust calendars to make up for snow days

Area elementary school districts have been adjusting their school calendars to make up for four days on which school was canceled because of extremely cold temperatures.

Area schools were closed Jan. 6-7 and Jan. 27-28 because of sub-zero temperatures.

Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 made up one of its days Feb. 17, which originally was planned as an institute day with no students in attendance.

The District 181 Board is planning to decide how it wants to handle making up the remaining three days lost to the cold at its March 10 meeting.

In Burr Ridge Elementary District 180, four days have been added to the end of the school year, which was scheduled to be completed Wednesday, May 28, and now will go through Tuesday, June 3.

Butler Elementary District 53 in Oak Brook also has added four student attendance days to the end of its 2013-14 school year calendar, making the final day of school for students Thursday, June 5, instead of Friday, May 30.

Maercker Elementary District 60 has done the same, moving its last day of school for students to Thursday, June 5, rather than Friday, May 30.

In Pleasantdale District 107, students will make up two class days on June 5 and 6. Teachers are scheduled to work additionally on June 9 and 10. Graduation remains as originally scheduled for June 3.
