Benet 61 – Hinsdale Central 50

Hinsdale Central and 6-7 junior Matt Rafferty have been tough to stop during a 10-game winning streak. With a commitment to defense, top-seeded Benet found a way in the Class 4A East Aurora Sectional semifinal Tuesday night.

With Liam Nelligan’s defense on Rafferty and Collin Pellettieri delivering 22 points, including six three-pointers, No. 19 Benet beat No. 20 Hinsdale Central 61-50 to advance to its third sectional final in five years.

With the game tied at 27 at halftime, the Redwings (22-7) held the Devils (23-7) to 1-of-10 shooting in the third quarter and Hinsdale was held to two baskets for nearly 11 minutes in the second half. Benet outscored Hinsdale 15-6 in the third quarter.
