Hinsdale Central sophomore to compete national music competition

Lucia Ticho, a sophomore at Hinsdale Central High School, will compete at the Music Teachers National Association National Student Competition Finals, which will take place during the 2014 association conference March 22–26 in Chicago. Ticho will compete in the finals of the Senior String Competition on March 23.

Ticho is principal cellist of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 2011, she placed first in the early music division of the Walgreens National Concerto Competition. She was chosen to perform for the Suzuki Association of the America’s 40th Anniversary celebration. Ticho has soloed with Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Chamber Orchestra, the Elgin Symphony and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. As recipient of a New Horizons Fellowship, she attended the Aspen Music Festival in 2013.

The three-tiered Music Teachers National Association competitions begin at the state level. First-place winners of each state’s competition advance to a division competition. Division winners compete in the national finals.
