Boys basketball: Longtime Nazareth Academy teammates finish their careers together

LAGRANGE PARK — Nazareth seniors Kevin Connelly, John Mazur and Christopher Swade have played on the same basketball court going back to their days in a YMCA league in La Grange.

With the exception of their first two years of high school, the close friends and teammates have always been on the court together in some way, through their early years on the LT Blazers travel team and at St. John of the Cross School in Western Springs from sixth to eighth grade.

Their playing careers together ended Friday when top-seeded Orr eliminated ninth-seeded Nazareth 70-46 in the Class 3A Nazareth Regional final. Connelly, the only member of the trio committed to playing college basketball next season, led the Roadrunners (14-13) with 13 points.
