Letter: Don’t make businesses ban guns

I would like to respond to the article in the recent article “Moms urge posting of no guns signs in business establishments.”

I am a 61-year-old grandmother-to-be who had never handled a gun. However, I completed the conceal and carry class March 2, an excellent class and I believe everyone should take. It consists of 16 hours of classroom instruction and a gun range practice session. The classroom training teaches you about handling a gun, gun safety, shooting, cleaning, different types of guns, storage, gun safes, and many other tips and tricks.

Establishments that post the “no guns” sign on their facility could become a target similar to the Aurora Colorado Shooting in 2012. The assailant specifically went to a theater where the “no guns” sign was posted and patrons could not conceal and carry. The gunman carried at least two weapons and was able to empty his shotgun before he started using his second weapon with a 100 round clip. Luckily that weapon malfunctioned after only firing the first 45 rounds. Had someone in that theater been able to conceal and carry, maybe 12 lives would have been saved.

The conceal and carry law is an excellent way for the average citizen to stop people who do not have any regard for our laws and lives. Please do not make business owners take guns away from people who legally choose to conceal and carry; by doing so, you are putting our children and grandchildren at risk!
