Hinsdale South danceline wins championship

The Varsity Danceline from Hinsdale South won the grand champipionship in Kick and tied for second place in Pom at the Team Dance Illinois State Championship.

At the competition at the Peoria Civic Center, the team scored the highest points in Kick in all 2A categories and received a check for $500. The team also was awarded the grand champion

The team competed at two regional competitions in January and February to achieve a qualifying bid which allowed them to progress to the grand championship, the season’s culminating event highlighting Illinois’ best youth, junior varsity and varsity dance, drill, pom and guard teams in elite competition.

The Hinsdale South Varsity Danceline is a team of 23 girls, coached by Courtney Gillette and assistant coach Heather Riggs. Team members are Elisabetta Bifero (captain), Carly Poro (captain), Caroline Roti (captain), Emily Albert, Alexis Ardovitch, Lena Brocato, Erica Caruso, Dakota Dapkus, Madison Gaceta, Natalie Garino, Anna Henry, Meghan Ida, Isabella Jorgensen, Abbey Karban, Kailey McGuinness, Hannah Nodus, Megan O’Malley, Nicole Palma, Mia Pique, Kelley Sunde, Sara Thompson, Gianna Vanchieri and Migle Varkalaite.

They began practicing in July and their season culminated with the Team Dance Illinois competition. This is the first time that Hinsdale South has won a Team Dance Illinois state championship or grand championship. The team has won Illinois Drill Team Association State titles several times in the past few years.
