It’s that time of year again as many student-athletes choose where they’ll play their college sports. Nazareth Academy recently had a pair of students do just that. Read the release:
Nazareth Academy is proud to announce that two more student-athletes, Ashley McGee (Chicago) and Matthew Vance (Westchester), have officially committed to continue their academic and athletic pursuits at Loras College and St. Ambrose University respectively.
Ashley McGee plays goalie for Nazareth’s Varsity Lacrosse team. In addition to playing Lacrosse for Loras, Ashley has also been accepted with a scholarship into the college’s selective Breitbach Catholic Thinkers and Leaders Scholarship Program. Ashley takes on a leadership role in many capacities at Nazareth. She serves as one of our Service Team Co-Chairs and is also the leader of our Student Athletic Trainers. “Overall, it is her passion for service and her incredibly positive spirit that draws you to her,” says Deborah Tracy, Principal. The Loras College Duhawks are a NCAA Division III program. The Breitbach Program is intended to put Catholic teachings into action. Enrolled students take part in special versions of a Modes of Inquiry (MOI) course and a Catholic Traditions course, plus travel together with an all-expense paid January term trip to Rome, Italy during junior year. Nazareth Academy wishes Ashley continued success at Loras College.
Matthew Vance was a defensive lineman for the Roadrunner Football team, earning his starting spot through his hard work and competitive nature. “Matt’s passion and intensity became infectious on our defense as he led our team in tackles in three of the games he started. He was an example to our entire program that effort, execution and technique demonstrated in practice will produce playing time and results in the actual games,” says Football coach, Tim Racki. The St. Ambrose Fighting Bees are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) competing in the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA). Nazareth Academy wishes Matt continued success at St. Ambrose University.
