The FBI and local police departments are looking for a man who robbed two bank branches in the western suburbs Monday afternoon.
A white man, wearing sunglasses, about 40 to 50 years old and 6-feet tall, robbed the First Merit Bank, at 700 W. North Ave. in Elmhurst about 1:15 p.m. March 17. He was recorded on the bank’s security camera.
At about 3:50 p.m., a man wearing the same clothes, a tannish-orange short jacket, yellow or cream-colored baseball cap and blue jeans, entered the First Merit Bank, on the northwest corner of 55th Street and Wolf Road in Western Springs.
He presented a note that implied he had a weapon, but did not display a weapon. He took an undisclosed amount of cash in a small black bag and fled on foot. No bank employees were injured.
Officers from several agencies responded and searched, but the suspect was not found.
Based on the similar appearance of the men recorded on the banks’ security cameras, the FBI believes the same man committed both robberies, FBI special agent and media representative Joan Hyde said.
