Legacy Guild raises $80,000 in scholarship money

Recognizing the financial as well as emotional blow that comes with losing a parent, a group of local men formed The Legacy Guild in 2012 to offer support to each other and the community.

The group’s recent fundraiser on March 8 proved that the community is there to help.

More than 350 supporters packed Fitzgerald’s Nightclub in Berwyn to raise a net total of more than $80,000 for the Legacy Guild Scholars program, which provides college scholarships for students in Lyons Township District 204 who have lost a parent.

The event included silent and live auctions, entertainment by Libido Funk Circus and an accompanying acrobat and juggling act.

“We nearly doubled what we raised last year for these young men and women,” said Ed Carr of La Grange, the chairman of the spring event. “Community members in Lyons Township District 204 continue to send a strong message to the families we are supporting that haven’t forgotten their loved ones, and we’re going to support their children. We are blown away by the outpouring of generosity.”

In May, the second group of Legacy Guild Scholars will be announced.

“Due to the success of this event, we’re anticipating being able to give out even more scholarships,” said Brian Davis of La Grange, one of the founders of the group.
