The March 24 announcement that Doug Eccarius is leaving June 30 marks the second resignation within a month of an administrator who is a former principal in Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181.

Eccarius, District 181’s assistant superintendent of human resources, previously was principal at The Lane School. He also filled the roles of assistant principal at Clarendon Hills Middle School and the district’s summer school director.

Kevin Russell, assistant superintendent of learning and a former principal of Walker School, announced earlier in March he is leaving to become superintendent of Chicago Ridge Elementary District 127.5

Superintendent Renee Schuster announced in February that she is leaving June 30 to return home to the St. Louis area.

Eccarius is leaving District 181 to become assistant superintendent, human resources, for Indian Prairie Unit District 204 in Naperville. He starts there July 1 and will replace Karen Sullivan, who is the district’s new superintendent.

District 204 has 33 schools, including 21 elementary, seven middle, three high schools, an alternative high school, and a preschool. The district’s total enrollment is about 29,000, and it employs about 3,000.

The move is somewhat a return home for Eccarius, who began his education career there in 1997 as a seventh-grade math and geography teacher at Gregory Middle School.

“I have been fortunate to build relationships with eager students, talented staff members, and involved parents,” Eccarius wrote in a letter to District 181 families. “It has been an honor to serve as an administrator in two buildings that are nationally recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. This is a great community, and I have felt an enormous amount of support from parents and staff.”
