HINSDALE — DeKalb first baseman Morgan Newport went 4-for-4 and drove in the game-winning runs in the sixth inning to lift the Barbs to an 8-5 win over Hinsdale Central on Friday.

Newport, a left-handed-hitting sophomore, stroked a two-run single to left field to break open a tie game and put DeKalb (8-3) ahead 7-5.

The rally was set up when Katie Kowalski singled and Lindsey Costiliow drove Courtney Berlin’s pitch to the warning track. Outfielder Alyssa Doneske made a diving catch in front of the fence, but could not hold onto the ball.

Hinsdale Central (3-2) rallied twice to tie the game. DeKalb led 3-1 in the third before Hinsdale junior Faith Koffron belted her third home run of the season and knocked in Annemarie Tracey to tie the game at 3-3.
