Area students earn campus honors

Alexander Powers of La Grange helped the Carthage FaceOff! Team win first place in the FaceOff! competition at the Mathematical Association of America’s Wisconsin Section meeting at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The team has compiled 10 wins and two second place finishes in its last 12 competitions over a span of six years. Face Off! is a mathematics quiz show with questions from the broad realm of mathematics.

 

Jena Thomas of Hinsdale, was among 29 students from Carthage College who presented their work at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research. The conference was held April 3-5 at the University of Kentucky. Thomas presented research on the topic, “Evolutionary Attraction, Freud, and Amnesia.”

Rajiv Deshpande of Oak Brook, was named to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the fall 2013 semester at Johns Hopkins University. He is a graduate of Hinsdale Central High School, majoring in biomedical engineering, and will graduate in May 2017.

 

Augustana College announced 858 students were named to the dean’s list for the 2013 winter term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.
