Hinsdale Humane Society will host the 25th annual Pet Walk walk-a-thon and fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 1 at Katherine Legge Memorial Park, 5901 S. County Line Road, Hinsdale. The event is the shelter’s largest fundraiser, a walk-a-thon for people and pets, helping homeless animals and celebrating the joys of pet ownership.
Registration fees are $25 for adults and children under 13 are free. Dogs are welcome at the event and are also free. Paid registrants will receive an official Pet Walk 2014 25th year T-shirt. The first 350 guests will receive goody bags and pet goody bags will be available for four-legged guests, while supplies last. Participants can walk one or more circuits around the walk route enjoying a host of activities, contests, demonstrations, entertainment and special raffle prizes.
This year’s event emcee is Judy Hsu from ABC-7 morning news. Other special participants include Denise Zak from Tails of the Heart who will provide psychic pet readings to attendees’ four-legged friends. Entertainment includes Frisbee dogs, K-9 police dog demonstrations, agility demonstrations, pet contests with prizes for Best Dressed Pet, Best Pet Tricks and Owner Pet Look-a-Like. Contests begin at 11 a.m. and those interested can sign up at the event.
The Pet Walk “shopping mall” features dozens of local vendors, many of whom have free giveaways for attendees. The Hinsdale Rotary will offer fresh grilled brats and hot dogs and Kona Ice will serve up shaved ice treats. There will be a petting zoo, pony rides, and carnival games for dogs and rescue groups. WillowGrove pet Clinic will host the Ask-a-Vet booth for those with pet-related questions.
