Darien police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Thursday behind a strip mall on 75th Street.
A 17-year-old girl was on the walking path between Abbey Court and the back of the strip mall at 2445 75 St., at 6:20 p.m. when she was approached from behind by a man who demanded her purse and cellphone. There was no threat or force or use of a weapon, nor physical contact made, police said. The man fled to the west without either the purse or phone.
The man is described as black, about 20-year-old, 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The girl called police when she arrived home, but a patrol of the area did not find the suspect. Darien police have increased patrol activity in the area.
Police also remind residents to be aware of their surroundings in public and not be distracted by texting or talking on a phone.
