The Cairo sisters of Fenwick know how special this softball season is. It is the only year Jenna and Natalie Cairo will play on the same team together.
Jenna Cairo is a senior center fielder and the Friars’ leadoff hitter. Natalie Cairo bats second and started the season playing third base, but was recently moved to left field alongside her sister. As the center fielder, Jenna is the quarterback of the outfield and looks out for her younger sister.
“I’m new to the outfield,’ Natalie Cairo said. “Even in the outfield, she’ll yell for me to scoot over, back up or tell me, ‘This girl hit it to you last time.’”
Jenna Cairo intends to play at Division II Lewis University in Romeoville. While she won’t be far away from Natalie next season, it’s every moment of this season that the sisters from Chicago will cherish. Playing together has made their relationship stronger.
“If there is a game where [Natalie] struggles, I give her some pointers and tips,” Jenna Cairo said. “I pick her up. We are around each other every day and we talk about softball most of the time. If we’ve had a hard day, we try to talk about [other things]. If we’ve had a great day, all we talk about is softball.”
