Skip Strittmatter has announced her plans to retire from the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau in July 2014, but this may change depending on the time frame for naming her successor. She plans to remain available as an adviser to the new director, as needed, to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Strittmatter celebrated 20 years with the bureau Dec. 6. When she joined the bureau as executive director in 1993, it had a three-person staff and was housed in a small county office. Today, the bureau employs 12 full-time staff members, augmented by part-time contractors and interns.
During her tenure, the bureau’s budget has grown from $50,000 to over $2.5 million.
Over her two decades of service, the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau has provided support when DuPage County hosted prestigious events such as the 2012 Ryder Cup, The Professional Golfers’ Association of America Championships, BMW Championship, The Ladies Professional Golf Association Solheim Cup, The National Collegiate Athletic Association Track & Field Championships, NIKE Tournament of Champions, Junior World Figure Skating, State Wars National Inline Hockey Tournament and The National Bowling Association Tournaments.
Strittmatter has served as president of the Illinois Council of Convention & Visitors Bureaus and Chicago Plus, and a board member for Visit Illinois. She sits on the boards for Choose DuPage and the DuPage County Workforce. She has been honored as an Influential Woman in Business by The Business Ledger and the College of DuPage’s Outstanding Travel Professional, and she has been featured in Crain’s Chicago Business.
A search team has been appointed by the board, which includes Strittmatter, and an executive search is underway to determine her replacement. Qualified individuals should email their resumes to HR@discoverdupage.com by May 9.
