Hinsdale High School District 86 and the Hinsdale High School Teachers Association have asked for federal mediation services for their ongoing contract negotiations.
District 86 released a statement Tuesday stating the request reflects the district’s and union’s shared desire to reach a multiyear agreement serving the best interests of all district stakeholders.
“Both the board and the HHSTA strongly believe that a mediator’s broad knowledge, experience in the process of collective bargaining and status as a respected neutral participant will help us resolve challenging issues related to compensation, health insurance and retirement benefits,” Superintendent Bruce Law was quoted as saying.
The association is the exclusive bargaining representative of District 86’s 377 teachers. Its chief negotiator, Jeff Waterman, was quoted saying they hope a mediator can move the process forward and help both sides bridge gaps in their respective positions.
It is expected the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service will assign a mediator within the next seven to ten business days.
