The Varsity Danceline from Hinsdale South recently competed in the Team Dance Illinois State Championship, winning the 2A State Championship for their kick routine. They were also awarded the distinguished Grand Champion status for scoring the most points in all 2A categories and tied for second place in the poms category.

This was the squad’s fifth straight state title. Members were honored by the Hinsdale High School District 86 Board at a recent meeting, where a clip of their award-winning, Elvis-themed kick performance was shown.

“This is a group of 23 outstanding young ladies that have spent the past eight months dedicating their time to representing their school with the utmost respect through their work on the dance floor and with the way they carry themselves in and out of the classroom and we’re very proud to be their coaches,” said Varsity Coach Courtney Gillette. “This is my the second group of seniors who can graduate knowing what it’s like to be a state champion every single year of high school. We hope that is a tradition we can continue at Hinsdale South.”

Other varsity squad leaders are Assistant Coach Heather Riggs and captains Elisabetta Bifero, Carly Poro and Caroline Roti. Team members include Emily Albert, Alexis Ardovitch, Lena Brocato, Erica Caruso, Dakota Dapkus, Madison Gaceta, Natalie Garino, Anna Henry, Meghan Ida, Isabella Jorgensen, Abbey Karban, Kailey McGuinness, Hannah Nodus, Megan O’Malley, Nicole Palma, Mia Pique, Kelley Sunde, Sara Thompson, Gianna Vanchieri and Migle Varkalaite.

The season begins anew with tryouts coming up and practices starting over the summer.
