The Hinsdale District 86 School Board last week approved contracts to resurface the tennis courts and renovate the art room at Hinsdale Central High School.

Midwest Sports Surfaces LLC of Westmont, the lowest of three bidders, was hired for $44,000.

The firm will fill the cracks, level any dips in the playing surface and recoat all nine courts at Central between June 9 and 27.

Repairs also are needed at Hinsdale South’s nine courts. School officials, however, are evaluating whether resurfacing would suffice at South, or if more extensive reconstruction is needed.

The main art room at Central will get a $173,000 renovation that includes moveable cabinets, new window blinds, sinks and customized furniture that will meet standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Electric boxes will be removed from the floor where people might trip over them, and overhead outlets will be installed with a new ceiling and lights.

The room will also be redesigned so there will be a classroom for instruction, a separate area for students to work on projects and more usable display space.

The Hinsdale Booster Club is donating $8,000 for this project.
