The Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation hosted its fifth annual Sport-A-Palooza fundraiser on April 5. Close to 240 people gathered at Gaelic Park in Oak Forest to enjoy dinner and musical entertainment and raise funds for the organization, which provides a toy or comfort item to children undergoing painful treatments for cancer.
La Grange’s Kent Mueller, father of the Sport-A-Palooza Honorary Chairperson Becca Mueller, delivered a speech which provided a glimpse into the hardships faced by a family dealing with a young child’s cancer diagnosis.
Dionne Miller, sports reporter at WFLD-Channel 32, served as emcee. Former Cubs pitcher Milt Pappas and former White Sox player Dan Pasqua participated in a meet-and-greet and signed autographs.
The evening raised more than $37,000 to benefit childhood cancer patients.
