Girls water polo: Fenwick completes comeback over McAuley, goes to final

LINCOLNSHIRE – The Fenwick girls water polo team’s state semifinal against Mother McAuley on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson unfolded similarly to its victory over Naperville North the previous day.

The Friars trailed at halftime in both contests — the Mighty Macs took a one-goal lead into the break — and then Fenwick responded with a dominating third quarter in a high-pressure environment.

Against McAuley, the Friars scored five unanswered goals during the third and played outstanding defense en route to a 12-8 win. The victory secured Fenwick’s place in the state championship, where it’s scheduled to play defending state champion St. Ignatius at 8 p.m. Saturday.
