THE SKINNY

York seemed in control from the onset against Lyons (18-3) in their sectional matchup on Tuesday at Downers Grove South, scoring less than six minutes into the game on Jessica Bianchi’s goal. The Dukes (12-7-2) dominated time of possession early in the first half, keeping pressure on Lyons keeper Lidia Breen, but the Lions’ goal by Catherine King off a corner kick with 15 minutes, 25 seconds to go seemed to turn the tide. Katie Dougherty put Lyons ahead a few minutes later, striking one past Duke netminder Annie DiCanio.

TURNING POINT

After a dominating end to the first half, the Dukes created more pressure in the second, but the Lions capitalized on penalty kick by Sarah Drew 2:24 into the second half to take a 3-1 lead, and less than three minutes later, Dougherty struck with her second goal.
