Metra: BNSF derailment near Aurora causes morning train delays

Metra BNSF trains experienced delays of up to 10 minutes during the morning commute after a train derailed near Aurora Tuesday night.

Inbound train No. 1324 derailed about 11:30 p.m. just after it left the Aurora station on the BNSF Railway, Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said.

The locomotive and one car derailed, but no one was injured, Gillis said.

Inbound and outbound trains between Chicago and Aurora were delayed up to 10 minutes throughout the Wednesday morning commute as crews at the scene worked in adverse weather to clear the derailment overnight, according to Metra.
