Both houses are on the 6900 block of Brookbank in Darien. The crimes occurred on May 10, 11, 12 and the 17.

After being burglarized once, one of the homeowners installed a security camera that allowed him to see his house remotely. A week after his home was burglarized, he was away, but watching his home via the security system when he saw someone suspicious on his property May 17, Cheauvé said. The homeowner notified the police who located and arrested the Darien teenager in the neighborhood.

The suspect, who is being held in the Kane County Juvenile Detention Facility, is charged with three counts of residential burglary, one count of attempted burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of drug equipment, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and possession of burglary tools.

Cheauve said it’s the fourth time recordings from a private security system, either at a home or business, helped the police with an investigation.

Businesses and residents with security cameras installed on their property are asked to notify the police. In the event of a crime near the property owner’s location, the police may ask the owner to check their security recordings.
