THE SKINNY

Benet’s girls soccer team pulled away late in the second half Wednesday night as the Redwings (18-2-3) defeated Hinsdale Central 3-1 to advance to the IHSA sectional finals Friday night against Lyons. Michelle Morefield gave Benet a 1-0 lead going into the second half and the Redwings added goals by Carissa Tsouchlos and Loretta Elder late in the second half as they held off an aggressive Red Devils’ attack.

TURNING POINT

Hinsdale Central (13-6-1) seemed to be on the verge of breaking through in the second half, dominating time of possession, but the Redwings created their own scoring chance in front of the net, with Morefield finding Tsouchlos to make it 2-0 and regain control.
