Coach Gerard Sullivan said it has been at least 15 years since there was a state meet without at least one Friars representative. That streak will continue after junior Colin Fitzpatrick finished fourth in singles at the OPRF Sectional on Saturday.

Fitzpatrick, who played doubles at state with then-senior Jack Ryan last season, said he felt added pressure entering Friday’s second match against Elmwood Park freshman David Wolk with a state spot on the line. Fitzpatrick prevailed 6-1, 6-0.

“We thought we were going to qualify two more, but I found out before [the Wolk] match that we didn’t,” Fitzpatrick said. “Individually, I wanted to win. But I also didn’t want to not qualify at all as a team. I really wanted to go for myself and the team. I’m really excited to represent Fenwick.”
